What is an LED Light?

Light-emitting diodes, better known as LEDs, produce light more efficiently than incandescent or halogen light bulbs. They do not burn out, but instead experience “lumen depreciation” - meaning the brightness of the LED will dim very slowly over a long period of time. It’s no wonder many electrical contractors today suggest upgrading to LED lighting. They are both cost- and energy-efficient!

LEDs Compared to Incandescent

Often, LEDs are confused with being actual bulbs because of their similarities in appearance. LEDs are small, therefore provide endless design opportunities. Some fixtures may have LEDs built in as a permanent light source. This prevents customers from having to constantly buy and install new bulbs. They are much brighter, illuminating between 30,000-100,000 hours and consume up to 90% less power than incandescent bulbs. How do they operate? According to EnergyStar.gov, an electrical current passes through a microchip, illuminating the tiny light sources we refer to as LEDs, causing visible light.
